Apple has once again wowed the tech world with its latest announcement at their special "Scary Fast" event held on Monday 30th October, unveiling the much-anticipated 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. These new additions to Apple's lineup come with some impressive enhancements, blowing previous Macbook models out of the water and immediately making them a must-have for both creative professionals and everyday users alike.
Stunningly Bright Displays
One of the standout features of these new MacBook Pro models is their dazzling displays. Apple claims that these laptops offer a 20% brighter display for standard content. The tech specs reveal that both the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models can achieve up to 600 nits of peak brightness for SDR (Standard Dynamic Range) content. This is a significant improvement over the previous models, which had a maximum brightness of 500 nits. When it comes to HDR (High Dynamic Range) content, they maintain their impressive peak brightness of up to 1,600 nits.
Apple are proclaiming their Liquid Retina XDR display as the best laptop display in the world. With a sustained 1000 nits and a peak brightness of 1600 nits for HDR content, these laptops promise exceptional contrast ratios, vivid colours, and outstanding viewing angles. Even SDR content is now displayed at up to 600 nits, offering a brighter and more captivating visual experience.
What's New with the iMac?
In addition to the MacBook Pro announcement, Apple also revealed an update to its 24-inch iMac. The highlight here is the new M3 chip, which promises substantial speed improvements over the previous M1 version. While the design and colour options remain the same, the M3 chip allows the 24-inch iMac to support up to 24GB of Unified Memory, a notable increase from the 16GB maximum of the M1 version.
Apple has also integrated Wi-Fi 6E support into the iMac, enabling it to connect to 6GHz networks, and it now supports Bluetooth 5.3 for improved connectivity and range. The 24-inch iMac comes in two-port and four-port varieties, with the latter offering additional USB 3 ports. The two-port model features an 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU, while the four-port model boasts an 8-core GPU and a 10-core GPU. The version with more ports also supports up to 2TB of storage, while the two-port model maxes out at 1TB.
Pricing for the M3 iMac starts at $1,299 for the two Thunderbolt port model, while the model with two Thunderbolt ports and two USB 3 ports starts at $1,499. You can place your order now, and these new iMacs will begin shipping to customers next week.
